What a great place!
When we all come to district conferences in our mission, we need to spend the night close by. As of now, the closest, decent place was an hour away......until now! The district pres. wife found this for us and she gave us her discount, which is the same as we pay now at the other place. We couldn't believe our eyes, that this was here, about 3 kilometers from the church!
We three missionaries with an administrator over student affairs.
We were with a total of about 16 full-time missionaries and branch missionaries. We divided into groups of 4 and taught different classes all day long. We were very well received. This women wanted Elder Ganir and I to meet the head administrator of the University. He was very kind and interesting. He pulled out two books that he has read and uses. Both were Steven Covey's books of highly effective people and habits.
You just never know who your are going to meet and what they have read. He even said he has our "Bible", referring to the Book of Mormon. We invited him to listen to our message and then found out that his neighbor is one of the branch presidents in the area. Small, but great world.
We went to Batangas State University and taught the Word of Wisdom again.
Glad this was an English speaking zone. Of course this is the Philippines and signs mean nothing.

Overload of the Day! Poor goats! And they were all alive! I don't know why they didn't try to jump out!

Beverly Hills, Lipa
We were taking someone home the other day and we passed this, to our surprise. A new subdivision. Most subdivisions have great entrances and then just sit there for years with one or no homes. We hope this one will be different.

While we were waiting for our boat to leave...
She is holding the lanterns. They both have wicks and the jars can be filled with kerosene. One can hang and the other just sits. They had a request to make four hundred of these lanterns. They are all hand made from recycled materials. They are in demand because not many people have electricity. These are a step up from candles.
Anyway, as we talked I invited here to listen to the missionaries. She lives in Santa Cruz village on Marindukie right next to the church. I gave her a picture of Elder Ganir and me. We were then going to give the referral to the missionaries working in that area with this picture of them. I met them on Sunday and on Tuesday, the missionaries were tracking and they found this family and the young man got out the picture I gave him. The missionaries text us and said thanks for planting the seed.
So, waiting for the boat was necessary for us to meet these people. Heavenly Father knows all.
Heart of the Philippines!
We had just spent almost 24 hours on a very hot and humid island with no air con or electricity (cold shower in the dark). We got to the dock to return home by way of boat. The boat was supposed to leave at four o'clock. We got to the dock at 2:30 so we were sure to get a seat and get the mission van on the boat also. The captained decided on a whim not to leave at 4:00 but, instead leave at 8:00. We had no place to sit while we waited, accept on a small cement square that held the huge ropes on the anchor in the cement square. It was so hot! I looked terrible. Anyway, excuse time over.
About the mountain in the background: Marindukie Island is known as the heart of the Philippines for two reasons. 1st, the mountain in this picture is exactly in the middle of the Philippine Islands and 2nd, Marindukie is somewhat shaped like a heart. There is 7800 islands in the Philippines.

We spent another great weekend with another general authority. It was great! He was put into the Quorum of Seventies last April.
He has a young family of five children. His oldest is 19. He and his wife with his family have already served as a mission president in the Philippines. He is a bold and great speaker. He knows how the people are in the Philippines and he tells them what they need to know and do with love great love in his heart.
Our Liahona.
We have a friend in Pakil Branch that does wood carvings for a living. The missionaries keep him pretty busy. I had this drawing of the
Liahona in my scriptures, so I asked him to carve me one. I am having some words put on the base. He did a great job. This is his first Liahona request. He said that so many people have seen it before I picked it up and wanted to buy it. He now has a new product to put in his line of carvings. This one is probably the simplest thing he carves. He carves anything and any size. He does beautiful work. His specialty is Book of Mormon prophets and people. Of course he does the Savior too. All are fantastic.
How is this for a garden?
Believe it or not, it is hard to find gardens here in the Philippines. This was just a piece of jungle property. It is across the gate from the mission home. The owners made it into a garden. They hand-tied the fence together with some sort of nylon ribbon. It was all very labor intensive. Just inside the bamboo entrance is a smaller fence that lines both sides of the walk way. There is a little bamboo building at the end of the walk way. I think they are going to sell vegetables (gulay).
