A Roman Soldier

On the island of Marinduque, during Holy Week, there is the Morinoes Festival. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is reenacted. This is a mask of a Roman soldier that is worn by men in the festival. It is a full mask that fits over the head. No, it is not ours. It belongs to a missionary, but Dad had to try it on and have this picture taken.

This is on the way to Pola. It takes us five hours to get to this apartment.

It takes us a boat ride, and a very BUMPY ride in the mission truck to get to the apartment in Pola. The truck is a brand new double cab Ford truck with a canopy. It is about six months old. The back window fell out. The canopy is disconnected because of the bumpy road which just rattles that poor truck. It is now in the process of being fixed, but I don't know how long it will last

This is why rice planting is bawal (forbidden) in our mission. Walking barefooted in this thick muddy water is not so healthy.

Isn't this a picturesque sight. Not only is planting bawal, but walking in wet rice paddies is bawal to our missionaries. It can be a health risk.
